How To Freeze Rows and Columns in Excel

To freeze rows and columns in Microsoft Excel:

  1. Select the cell in the row below the row you want to freeze and the cell in the column to the right of the column you want to freeze.
  2. Next, click on the “View” tab in the ribbon.
  3. Click on the “Freeze Panes” drop-down arrow in the “Window” group.
  4. Select the “Freeze Panes” option.

This will freeze the selected rows and columns so that they remain visible when scrolling.

How To Freeze Top Row and First Column Simultaneously in Excel

In Microsoft Office 365, it’s not clear how to freeze top row and first column in Excel.

It appears that the “Freeze” option only allows you to “Freeze” column A or Row 1 from the menu bar… In other words, if you select Freeze Column 1, you can’t also choose to Freeze Row A…

However, you can select cell B2 and click “Freeze Panes” this will freeze Row 1 and Column A simultaneously.

Selecting “Freeze Panes” in Excel freezes the rows above your selected cell and the columns to the left of your selected cell.
